Mango Sago Dessert (楊枝甘露)

Mango is one of the popular topical fruit. There is bunch of mango's recipes you can get easily especially in Asia. It's yummy even you eat it on its own.
One of the common desserts you can found in Chinese restaurant is Mango Sago. I got few mangoes from my aunt on last Sunday, so I decided to make the said dessert in simpler way.
If you want a tastier and creamier output, you may add the evaporated milk or coconut milk to the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 mangoes    2
  • 1/8 cup of sago    1/8
  • 180ml of milk    180
  • 1/8 cup of crystal sugar    1/8

  Steps

  1. Bring a big pot of water to boil. Pour the sago into the boiling water and cook at low-heat for about 10 minutes. Keep stirring during its cooking.
  2. Off the heat and on the lid to steam the sago until it turns to translucent.
  3. Place the milk and the crystal sugar into saucepan. Boil the milk at low-heat to dissolve the sugar through. Off the heat.
  4. Peel off the mango skin and dice the flesh. Keep 1/4 of the flesh for garnish while the balance blend with the milk syrup to smooth puree.
  5. Run the sago under cold water to wash away the starch. Add into mango puree.
  6. Garnish the mango sago with the previous mango flesh. Keep in fridge over night and is ready to serve.
